Visit the Cajundome arena and convention center to see the real action in Lafayette, a sports lovers city. The Lafayette Cajundome is located at 444, Cajundome Boulevard, Lafayette, Louisiana. It is an acclaimed landmark of the city and acts as home to basketball teams of Louisiana. The arena is built with a large capacity of around 12,000 seats in 1985, with cost of approximately $64 million. Around the year 2002 a newly constructed structure was added to the convention center, that made the center exhibition hall more spacious by 37,301 square feet.
Arena floor space showed increase of 40,000 square feet, the meeting space by 38,685 square feet, outdoor mall holding up to 17,590 square foot and 2,118 for outdoor events. The arena hosts not just sports but numerous regional concerts and special events like World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events as well. An eleven-day event program of Cajundome’s Heartland State fair is hosted at the arena attracting about 170,000 visitors.
It was on August 26,1996, Arena faced a situational crisis when the famous singer R.Kelly did not report for the concert in Lafayette. As confirmed by the attorney that Mr. Kelly got involved in a pickup basketball game that got rough and the member of the opposite team had been hurt badly and required stitches.
For not showing up at the concert, the Canjundome seized $300,00 worth of singer’s band equipment, to be recovered only after paying the venue its $40,000 to cover up the expenses. Conclusively singer had to drop his deposit of $45,000. The arena acted as home to EHCL for almost a decade from mid 1990 through the mid2000, who acts now as defunct Louisiana IceGators.
